Sitka Black tail deer hunting is another exciting activity on your Fish Kodiak Adventure. No where else offers so many opportunities! On a likely day you could catch a King Salmon, Halibut and bag a nice Sitka Black tail buck, all the time surrounded by some of most breathtaking scenery imaginable. Rick is a licenced transporter not a big game guide. These hunts are not guided, however, being a long time hunter, Rick will get you to the spots that deer are likely to be. The Sitka Blacktail Deer has a smaller rack many deer species. They are similar to their cousin the Columbia Blacktail. They are one of the most handsome of the deer species. They have a reputation of being small. It is true they do not stand very tall at the shoulders, but they are stocky. A nice buck can weigh in at over 200 lb. To make the Boone & Crockett Record Book the minimum score is 108. Many deer taken in the Ugak Bay area have exceeded that minimum. The current limit for deer on Kodiak is three animals. This can give you an opportunity to bag more than one buck. If your not satisfied with the first buck go for a bigger one. One more thing, they taste great, truly the best eating venison in the world.
The truck load of deer above was taken in 2002. Because of the poor photo quality this photo should probably not be on the web. If you hunt you understand why it is on this web site. It is a very good example of a very productive early December Ugak Bay deer hunt.
Rick is not a bear guide. He just wanted to show off the first bear that he shot in the Spring of 2004. The Kodiak Brown bears hide squared 9'3. His skull measured 27 3/8" dried. Rick can transport Alaska resident hunters to the field, who draw tags in hunting areas on the East Side of Kodiak Island.
