Fish Kodiak Adventures offers truly fantastic Halibut fishing!  One of the greatest things
about halibut fishing out of Pasagshak Bay is the very short distance to the fishing grounds.
You are just a few Scenic minutes away from some of the most productive Halibut fishing
areas in the World.  You will not spend all your fishing time traveling  by boat to get to the
fishing grounds or waiting for a short slack tide window to fish, like other areas in Alaska.
Big Halibut are common,
and shallow water/ near shore fishing for these Brute's is another
one Ricks specialty.
Halibut fishing is good all season long and all of our clients are  successful and always take
home plenty of the tasty white fish.
Fishing gear includes,
Standard equipment 5 foot Shakespeare tide water
big game rods with Penn 113 Special Senators reels
loaded with 80 lb. Dacron fishing line.
For those
sportsman that do not want to loss a big one.
For those Adventurous types who really want a
thrill,  we use Light
Tackle, 9'
G. Loomis GL2
rods with Penn 320 RH & 321 LH
reels,  loaded with 30#
 mono  for trolling, mooching
& jigging Halibut.  We find this gear to be more
effective for catching halibut, than conventional
halibut fishing gear.  It also
puts a whole new Twist
into halibut fishing.
It  allows you to fish for king
salmon, silver salmon, ling cod and halibut at the
same time.  You just never know what you are going
to bring up next.
It  makes every fish exciting.   The biggest halibut
caught in 2006 on this light gear was estimated  at
260 lb..  The  battle lasted 60 minutes and the lucky
angler that caught the fish decided to  released it.
There are no size limits on sport
caught halibut in Alaska.
The limit is two a day.  All the
large fish are females.  There is
no rules about releasing giant
halibut.  You can keep as big of a
fish as you can catch.
Smaller fish are better eating and
the big fish are the brood stock
for future fishing seasons.
For this reason Rick likes to
release the giant fish.  Agian there
are no lodge or boat rules, it is
totally up to you.
Fly fishing Halibut?    Most of our halibut fishing is done close to shore in shallow water.
Often we are fishing so close to shore you can literally throw a rock and hit the beach!   It
is not uncommon to hook up a halibut while fly fishing for Coho  or King salmon.
This is
definitely puts a new twist in halibut fishing
!
It's all  FUN !!!!!!!!
The best halibut fishing is in May,
June, July, August, September &
October.  If you take your Fish
Kodiak  Adventure in May or
June You will be fishing for
halibut and King salmon  usually
in the same water.  If you come in
July, August or September, you
will be fishing for halibut and
silver salmon in the same water.
If your Adventure is in October it
is back to fishing King salmon
and halibut in the same water,  as
an added bonus to the
outstanding fishing, you will often
see bald eagles, whales,  Sea
Lions, puffins, harbor seals, and
sea otters, during the day.  The
sightseeing can be an
Adventure
all on it's own.
The season for Ling Cod opens on July
1st
. Hiding among the underwater rock
pinnacles of Kodiak Island these fish are one of
the areas most voracious predators.   Feared
especially by rock fish one of their favorite
meals.   The ling cod is truly a fish with an
attitude.  Revered more for it's flavor, than it's
fight (which is allot like pulling up a 5 gallon,
half full of rocks).  Nothing says
" What's for
dinner ?"
more then a fresh ling cod.  It's
delicate white flesh preferred by many over
halibut. We catch  ling cod while fishing for
salmon and halibut.  For a change of pace we
will target them along with rock fish.  Ling cod
will often follow rock fish to the surface and
can be seen swimming under the boat.
Especially fun on the light fishing gear.  Rock
fish season is open year round and they are
also very tasty.
